About the book

Freddie Mercury’s Royal Recipes is the only book on this theme written so far. It will delight not only Mercury fans but lovers of gastronomy too. It is a unique work filled with everything Freddie loved to eat, as well as authentic photographs and lots of interesting stories about Freddie, on and off stage.

Peter Freestone's few words about the recipes

Peter Freestone met Freddie Mercury for the first time in October 1979, and their friendship began a month later when Peter started working for Queen. He became Freddie’s personal assistant in 1980 and travelled the world with him. He stayed with Freddie Mercury until his death in 1991. Peter is the co-author of two books on Freddie Mercury. He travels all over the world for events in support of the prevention of AIDS and also takes part in various activities organised by the Official International Queen Fan Club. He is currently living in the Czech Republic.

A few words about Freddie

Freddie Mercury of the celebrated band Queen was an extravagant individual who loved flamboyance in food as much as in music and fashion. Not many people know, however, what Freddie Mercury actually liked to eat and drink, or what his favourite meal was.

Example recipe

Marinated mushrooms

This simple starter was a favourite at lunch times, when Freddie had only a few guests, and wanted to give them something extra!

Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add the bacon and fry until the fat starts to come out of the bacon. Add the mushrooms and garlic; cook for a few minutes until the mushrooms are soft, making sure you stir the mixture frequently.

Pour in the wine and turn up the heat so that it bubbles, turn down the heat a little and reduce the liquid till it is like syrup. Season and remove from the heat and let the mixture cool. Place equal amounts of lettuce on small plates and pour the mushrooms over it.
